Please Join Us on Our Journey

As we planned the launch of this new magazine over the past several
months, the sales team, writers and I have had the chance to talk to several hundred
local business people and community leaders.

When we told them the goals for The Business Report, their feedback
was overwhelmingly positive, with one person after another agreeing that
we’re offering just what Gainesville and Alachua County need: a fair and
accurate source for local business news, a friendly place where business
owners can turn for no-nonsense advice and most of all, a bold advocate
for issues that concern the business community.

The public reaction to our plan is gratifying—and a bit humbling too,
because we take our responsibilities seriously and want to deliver for you
on every one of our objectives. We want The Business Report to be
your voice on issues that affect local business. More than that, though, we
want the magazine to be a positive influence on the community at large.
That’s why we adopted this mission statement:

The North Central Florida Business Report will help shape the
growth of Gainesville and Alachua County and their businesses, making
the area a better place to live, work and play.

We purposely chose to focus on business while also casting an eye
on the community at large because it’s clear the two are intertwined.
You can’t have a successful business environment if the community as a
whole doesn’t thrive, nor can you have a flourishing community if business
is allowed to stagnate. (Too often, it seems, a portion of our elected
officials don’t realize this last part.)

Gainesville and Alachua County have a wealth of resources—both
natural and man-made—but there is much that we need to improve
if we want to become the power in North Central Florida that we should
be. Over the coming months The Business Report will explore the
issues that we fear are limiting the area’s potential and seek out possible
solutions. We hope you’ll join us on our journey.

For now, we invite you to enjoy our “grand opening.” Check out the
surroundings, taste our specials, then let us know what you think. As much
as we hope you’ll compliment us
when we do things right, we also hope you’ll let us know if we stray from our
mission. For most of all, this magazine is dedicated to serving your needs.
