•    The job you aspire to requires you to have one.
•    You can get admitted to a top-tier business school where you’ll have the opportunity to build a network with alumni that will help you get a job when you graduate.

A proposal to install a median on SW 13th Street near the new Shands Cancer Center has some local businesspeople concerned it will hurt their sales.
As part of a move to ensure safety on the stretch of 13th Street between Archer Road and SW 16th Avenue, Shands (under permit with the Florida Department of Transportation) is planning to build a concrete barrier that would prevent drivers from crossing oncoming traffic to reach businesses or residences on the opposite sides of the road.

It was almost a given that Jody Davis would end up owning a successful small company and advising other business owners. After all, it was in his genes: His mother and father were equal partners in a number of businesses in Orlando, including a group of drug stores, a motel and a real estate company.
But before he settled into his long and prosperous career as a certified public accountant, financial planner and mediator, Davis first thought his future would be as a doctor. He spent three years as a premed major at the University of Florida then entered UF’s medical school. Three months in, however, he decided medicine wasn’t for him.

Although he’s successful today, when Rob Zeller started out as a bar owner in 1996, business was a struggle. He spent five years working 100 hours a week before he made his first nickel of profit. “It was quite a challenge,” he says.

    These days, he and other Gainesville bar and nightclub owners are once again in a struggle. This time, the fight is against city rules that aim to punish them if they serve underage drinkers. Both sides feel they’re in the right.
